Our read of the 42 Fly from the sales in our data and the published record: this is a couples-and-guests cruiser bought as much for the joystick as for the flybridge. It trades slowly compared with Regal's outboard boats, roughly 171 days on market across three recorded sales, and it closes further below asking than Regal's outboard boats because buyers price in IPS service risk and because most of the inventory is freshwater boats in the Great Lakes and Northeast rather than Florida.
That freshwater fact cuts both ways: a Chicago or Long Island boat with low hours and full Volvo dealer service is the best 42 Fly you can buy, but the buyer has to budget delivery to Florida. IPS drive service history, gyro service, and the generator are what a surveyor spends the most time on.

Overview
Introduced in 2017, the 42 Fly is the flybridge version of Regal's 42-foot IPS platform (the 42 Grande Coupe is the hardtop sibling). It measures 41 ft 9 in to 42 ft LOA with a 13-foot beam, a 43-inch draft and about 27,500 lb dry, carrying 258 gallons of diesel and 62–73 gallons of water.
The layout puts a salon with an opening atrium roof, a galley and a lower helm on the main deck; the flybridge above carries a second helm, lounge seating and an optional wet bar. Below are a forward VIP and a full-beam midship master, with one or two heads depending on configuration. Twin IPS pods with joystick make it an easy boat for owners stepping up from a single-helm express, and it is the only flybridge Regal has built.

Production history
Regal introduced the 42 Fly and 42 Grande Coupe for the 2017 model year on a new IPS platform, its first flybridge yacht and a step into the space then occupied by Sea Ray's 400 and 450 Fly and Cruisers' Cantius line. Power was IPS 500 (370 hp) or IPS 600 (435 hp). The 42 Fly stayed largely unchanged through the run, gaining Seakeeper as a factory option, updated Garmin and Volvo glass-cockpit electronics, and interior finish updates. It remains the only flybridge Regal has built.
Model-year guidance
2017–2019. First boats; IPS 500 and IPS 600 both offered. The 2018–2019 boats are the value buys, with the spread driven by hours, location and condition.
2020–2022. Seakeeper and updated electronics more common; freshwater boats from this era with dealer service records are the sweet spot.
2023–2026. Latest interiors and electronics. Compare against new-boat pricing with freight before buying a late-model used example.

Budget for Volvo IPS service: drive oil and filters, prop seals, steering actuators and diagnostics through a Volvo dealer, plus the D6 engines' service intervals. A diesel generator, air conditioning and a Seakeeper (if fitted) each carry their own schedules. Bottom paint and prop-speed on the IPS drives are annual items in Florida. The 13-foot beam and 17-foot bridge clearance limit some slips and lifts; most 42 Flys live in a wet slip.
