Expert assessment
Broker's take on the Regal 36 Grande Coupe
Our read of the 36 Grande Coupe from the sales in our data and the published record: this is the express for buyers who want the enclosed-salon, joystick-docking experience at a size that still fits a residential lift, and it competes directly with the Sea Ray Sundancer 350 Coupe and Formula 350 CBR. The two recorded 2026 sales both came from outside Florida, one from Alabama and one from Lake Lanier, which is typical: freshwater inventory dominates this model.
It trades slowly. Our two recorded sales averaged well over a year on market, though the Lanier boat was listed early and sat through a full season. The buyer's job is the same as on the 38: sterndrive service history, cooling type, generator and Seakeeper hours, and the atrium roof.
Verified-aboard notes are pending for this model. Our broker and a captain will add firsthand handling, sea-trial and survey observations when a hull is walked.
*This is a PYM Model Snapshot: specs and performance are drawn from manufacturer and published test data, and market figures come from transactions recorded in the PYM Market Inventory. Verified-aboard notes from our broker and a captain are added when we walk a hull, at which point the page becomes a Verified Model Guide.*
Who this boat fits
- Couples who want an enclosed, air-conditioned express with joystick docking that fits a lift
- Buyers who want the Grande Coupe experience below 38 GC money
- Freshwater and coastal cruisers who use the atrium roof and bow lounge
- Owners stepping up from a 30–33 ft express who want a real galley and enclosed head
Who should look elsewhere
- Families who need two separate staterooms; the 36 has one cabin plus a convertible lounge
- Salt-water owners who do not want to manage sterndrive corrosion
- Fishing or watersports use
- Buyers who want quick resale; this model trades slowly
Strengths
- Enclosed, air-conditioned salon with an opening roof in a lift-friendly 37-foot package
- Joystick docking with Volvo DPS
- Quick: about 46 mph top and a high-30s cruise with twin 350s
- Walk-through windshield to a real bow lounge
- Freshwater inventory means low-hour examples exist
- Seakeeper 3 and hydraulic platform available
Tradeoffs
- One cabin plus a convertible lounge; guests sleep in the salon
- Slow resale; our two recorded sales averaged over a year on market
- Sterndrive bellows, bearings and corrosion maintenance, especially in salt
- 200 gallons of fuel limits range at speed
- Most inventory is outside Florida; budget delivery
Overview
Introduced for the 2020 model year alongside the 38 Grande Coupe, the 36 GC is the smaller and lighter of the pair: 37 ft 3 in LOA (about 38 ft 6 in with the current platform), an 11 ft 6 in beam, a 16-degree deadrise, 17,300–18,600 lb dry and 200 gallons of fuel. Twin Volvo Penta V8 sterndrives with joystick are standard; the 350 and 380 are the common engines.
The layout mirrors the 38: an atrium salon with sliding doors and an opening roof, a helm with Volvo glass cockpit, a cockpit with L-shaped seating and a refreshment center, a walk-through windshield to the bow lounge, and a cabin below with a double berth, convertible dinette, galley and enclosed head. It is the Grande Coupe that fits on more lifts.
Features & layout
Salon. Atrium layout with opening roof and sliding doors; helm with Volvo glass cockpit and joystick; L-shaped lounge and table; walk-through windshield to the bow.
Bow. Lounge seating with rails and a sun pad.
Cockpit. L-shaped seating, refreshment center with refrigerator and optional grill, drop-down TV on many boats; swim platform with optional hydraulic PowerPlatform and SeaDek.
Below. Double berth forward, convertible dinette lounge, galley with refrigerator and microwave, enclosed head with shower.
Systems. Twin Volvo V8 300/350/380/430 sterndrives with joystick, generator, air conditioning, optional Seakeeper 3, bow thruster on many boats.
Production history
Regal introduced the 36 Grande Coupe for 2020 as a companion to the 38 Grande Coupe, bringing the atrium salon concept down to a size that fits residential lifts. Power was twin Volvo Penta V8 sterndrives with joystick from launch, in 300, 350, 380 and 430 hp versions. Through 2026 the boat gained updated Volvo EVC2 engine packages, Garmin and Volvo glass-cockpit electronics, interior finish updates and an extended platform that pushed LOA to about 38 ft 6 in; the layout stayed consistent.
Model-year guidance
2020–2021. First boats with V8 350s and 380s; the value end of the range.
2022–2023. Updated electronics and finishes; 2022–2023 boats are on the market now from the high $300,000s asking.
2024–2026. EVC2 engine packages, extended platform, current electronics; 2025 boats are listed at roughly $450,000–$500,000 asking. Compare late-model used against a new-boat quote with freight.
Market
Public market guidance
PYM Market Inventory has recorded two 36 Grande Coupe sales in 2026 so far (a 2021 and a 2024, both from freshwater markets); because both listings ran through a full season, they averaged over a year on market. Five 36 GCs are listed right now at asking prices from about $369,000 to $500,000 (2022–2025).
With a small sample, treat the current asking range as the working market and expect long marketing times.
Actual sold prices, sale dates and the discount from asking for every recorded 36 Grande Coupe are in the PYM sold report, sent by email on request and updated weekly.
Value factors
Adds value: V8 380 or 430 power, Seakeeper 3, hydraulic platform, closed cooling, freshwater history with dealer records, low engine and generator hours, recent bellows and bearing service, factory Garmin and Volvo glass cockpit, lift-kept history.
Subtracts value: V8 300 power, deferred sterndrive service, drive corrosion, raw-water-cooled engines kept in salt, high generator hours, worn atrium roof seals, dated electronics, missing generator on a Florida boat.
Ownership
Ownership costs & practices
Volvo Penta V8 sterndrives set the maintenance schedule: bellows and gimbal bearings, drive oil, Duoprop condition, anodes and corrosion on the drives and transom shields in salt. Ask whether the engines have closed cooling. A generator and air conditioning want hours logged and strainers cleaned. Seakeeper 3 adds annual service. Keep the atrium roof tracks and seals clean. The 36 GC fits many larger residential lifts, which is where the best-kept examples come from; slip-kept boats need bottom paint and annual haul-outs.
Areas buyers should inspect carefully
- Volvo sterndrive bellows, gimbal bearings, U-joints and drive oil
- Drive and transom-shield corrosion; anodes; bonding
- Engine cooling type; risers and manifolds on raw-water boats
- Joystick calibration and DPS function
- Generator hours, exhaust and raw-water system
- Seakeeper hours and service (if fitted)
- Atrium roof mechanism, tracks and seals; sliding door seals; walk-through windshield latch
- Hydraulic swim platform (if fitted)
- AC compressors, strainers and condensate drains
- Bottom blistering and running-gear condition on slip-kept boats
Buying practices
Get the Volvo service history and the date of the last bellows and gimbal-bearing service before survey. Sea-trial to wide-open throttle and confirm rated rpm with the props fitted. Price against recorded sold comparables and expect a long marketing cycle; both recorded sales sat for a season or more, and the PYM sold report shows the spread. Budget delivery from freshwater markets and a fresh bottom job. Confirm Florida sales-tax and documentation status before offering.

FAQ
Common questions
Who is the Regal 36 Grande Coupe best for?
Couples who want an enclosed, air-conditioned express with joystick docking and an opening roof, at a size that still fits a residential lift. It is the Grande Coupe for buyers who do not need two separate staterooms.
What engines does it have?
Twin Volvo Penta V8 gas sterndrives with joystick: 300, 350, 380 or 430 hp. Published testing with twin 350s shows about 46 mph at the top and roughly 37 mph at 5,000 rpm.
What is the fuel range?
With 200 gallons, range at a mid-20s mph cruise on twin 350s or 380s is roughly 200 statute miles with a reserve; it drops quickly at higher speeds.
How many people can sleep aboard?
Four: a double berth forward and a convertible dinette lounge in the cabin, sharing one enclosed head with shower. There is no separate second stateroom.
What does a used 36 Grande Coupe cost?
Five are listed today at asking prices from about $369,000 to $500,000 for 2022–2025 boats. Recorded sale prices are in the PYM sold report, available by email on request.
How long does it take to sell?
A long time. Our two recorded sales averaged over a year on market after sitting through a full season. Buyers for this boat are patient.
How do I get the actual sold prices?
Request the 36 Grande Coupe sold report on this page. It lists every recorded sale — price, date, listing date and days on market — and is updated weekly. Sold data is shared with registered clients only, which is why it isn't printed on the public page.
Will it fit on a lift?
Often, yes. At 17,300–18,600 lb dry and 11 ft 6 in of beam it fits many larger residential lifts, which is one reason it appeals over the 38 GC.
Are sterndrives a problem in salt water?
They need scheduled attention: bellows, gimbal bearings, drive corrosion and anodes, and closed cooling helps. Freshwater boats with dealer records command a premium for that reason.
Does it have a Seakeeper?
Seakeeper 3 was a factory option and appears on some later boats. It adds value and comfort at anchor.
What should a survey focus on?
Sterndrive bellows and bearings, drive corrosion, engine cooling type, joystick and DPS, generator and AC, Seakeeper, the atrium roof, sliding doors and walk-through windshield, and the hydraulic platform if fitted.
How does it compare to the 36 XO?
Same builder, same size, different power and layout. The XO is an outboard boat with two sleeping cabins and a bigger head; the Grande Coupe is a sterndrive with an enclosed salon and opening roof. Choose by whether you want outboard simplicity or an air-conditioned salon.
Best suited to: express cruiser · hardtop · joystick · lift-friendly · weekend cruising
