Expert assessment

Broker's take on the Pursuit OS 325

The OS 325 is a compact way into a true cabin boat. Couples and small families can sleep four, cook in the galley or the cockpit and still run offshore to fish. Twin engines keep running costs below the triple engine Offshore models.

The current generation is a meaningful step forward in layout. PYM data spans older and newer boats, so price and equipment vary widely. Air conditioning and a generator are options, so check each boat's equipment closely.

Who this boat fits

  • Couples and small families who want weekends aboard
  • Anglers who want a cabin for long days
  • Owners moving up from a center console
  • Buyers who want twin engine running costs

Who should look elsewhere

  • Buyers who want a generator and AC standard, see the OS 355
  • Day only anglers, who may prefer the S 328
  • Large groups

Strengths

  • Sleeps four with a galley and private head
  • Twin engine efficiency: 1.27 mpg at 33.5 mph in Pursuit testing
  • Dive door and generous fishing cockpit
  • Large livewell and two fish boxes
  • Strong brand resale

Tradeoffs

  • Air conditioning and generator are options
  • Smaller cabin and cockpit than the OS 355
  • Prices vary widely because PYM data mixes generations
  • Less top end than triple engine Offshore models

Ownership

Ownership costs & practices

Budget for two outboards, the head and freshwater systems, galley appliances and any generator and air conditioning. Pursuit measured 26.3 gallons per hour at a 33.5 mph cruise. Cabin boats need good ventilation and dehumidifying in storage.

Areas buyers should inspect carefully

  • Confirm the generation and build year from the hull identification number
  • Inspect the cabin for leaks at hatches, windows and the windshield
  • Full engine survey on every outboard, including compression, lower units and hours
  • Hull, deck and transom by a qualified marine surveyor, including moisture readings
  • Electronics, joystick and steering function
  • Generator hours and service history, if fitted
  • Air conditioning, refrigeration, head and freshwater systems
  • Hardtop, windshield, canvas and hatch seals
  • Sea trial at cruise and top speed, compared with Pursuit's published numbers

Buying practices

  • Compare several boats of similar year and engine package before making an offer
  • Use PYM recorded sales, not asking prices alone, to set a fair offer
  • Make any offer subject to survey and sea trial
  • Check the remaining manufacturer and engine warranty and whether it transfers
  • Review service records for engines and onboard systems
